And how many of those end horribly?

Also, on the other side of the assumptions about character, it bothers me when the male who doesn't conform to societal norms is assumed to be a bad boy, regardless of his actual feelings and behavior. It reminds me a TV commercial (forgot the product being schlepped) that shows what one family member wants and what the mother wants. In part of it, a boy is at the door for the daughter. He's dressed in darker clothes (jeans and casual shirt) and a hat of some sort (an allusion to the bad boy the daughter wants). Then it switches to a boy dressed in yuppy fashion with khakis and a dress shirt (what the mom wants for her daughter). Who's to say the first boy isn't artistic or already comfortable with his individuality? Or that the boy trying to impress the parents isn't a date rapist wrapped in preppy clothes?lunasgatheringhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18398298123008839716noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4732686716456426067.post-31437852884458424372013-02-11T20:41:57.904-06:002013-02-11T20:41:57.904-06:00Awesome, looking forward to getting a copy when it...Awesome, looking forward to getting a copy when it's available to download and read. It's been at that price for months now. Since February, it has sold more than 35,000 copies. I keep it at the 99 cent mark for a few reasons 1. It is my first book and I'm trying to get my name out there. 2. Its the first in my series (there will be at least 6 books in the series.) 3. I'm trying to build a reader base.

My second book, Findley's Lass, is priced at $2.99 and it is having great sales too, so much in fact, that I was able to give up my day job just a few weeks ago. Book one has been on Amazon's top 100 best sellers list since February. Book two was released September 2 and was on same list by September 8. ;o) I'm working on book 3 right now and it will be at the $2.99 mark as well.

I think the 99 cent mark does have its place. Should all books be priced so low? Nope. But I figured it was worth it to get my name out there and a great way develop my reader base. ;o)

Thanks for letting me share my opinion! ;o)
SuzanSuzan Tisdalehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15448144413924439336noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4732686716456426067.post-5097379919586758492012-10-21T08:26:08.877-05:002012-10-21T08:26:08.877-05:00It does sound like fun! It does not mean that the first draft of Harry Potter was rejected 12 times before it became a blockbuster. It usually means 12 drafts of the book were rejected before the 13 set of revisions and edits found a publisher.

The script fot the movie Amadeus went through 47 drafts before it was made into a movie that later won 8 oscars. This was a film late in Peter Schafer's career. Even as an established screenwriter he still wrote 47 drafts before he won that oscar for best adaption.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4732686716456426067.post-69170015409619866502012-07-28T23:36:21.324-05:002012-07-28T23:36:21.324-05:00HURRY HURRY! I know some writers try to make super triple-strong females to avoid the weak damsel trope, but this leaves us with an unbalanced, unrealistic character. A character's weakness (man or woman) is what allows them to grow! And growth is what capture's a reader's heart. :)

Happy writing!Angela Ackermanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01808259088625142389noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4732686716456426067.post-29837831623700566602012-07-19T22:41:51.907-05:002012-07-19T22:41:51.907-05:00Looking forward to the read & review!Looking forward to the read & review!Lisa ~ Moon Shine Art Spothttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14910144164438235038noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4732686716456426067.post-21795603702124052012-07-04T12:34:45.158-05:002012-07-04T12:34:45.158-05:00Thank you! Total page count is based on a LOT of factors: Word count, word density (there will be more pages if your word density is low, such as stories that have lots of dialog), font size, character spacing, line spacing, etc. Trying to calculate a perfect multiple to calculate page length is impossible, because every book is different.

I suspect that Amazon is using an average page size, average font size to make this a constant for all eBooks, and then laying each book out and calculating the page count by the number of *lines* rather than the number of words, which will actually give you a more accurate page count.

For the record, my fantasy novel The Time Weaver weighs in at 100,000 words and 305 pages in paperback. That's 327(ish) words per page, which is actually a fairly high word density, but that's because I tend to use a lot of description blocks.Thomas A.
